There is an illicit pleasure in exploring the world through the eyes of a fictitious character of my own devising. In fact, there is little more emancipating. As I write I learn that I have imagined for my “real” selves every kind of restraint and constraint, and I ask myself why it is I should feel the need to write a fiction in order to gleefully explore all the many people that I am.
